So you were what we call infrastructure.
I am a developer and we blame our infrastructure team of all sorts, an by and large it is in deed their fault. I did not realise how good the infrastructure was at the last place I worked till I came to this one!
Back to my problem. The clone mac address proved not to be the problem.
I went through many other settings and altering them just to see if it made a difference all making no difference at all.
I have always been a advocate of static ip's and have always set my home networks up as static on each router I have had. I changed it to dynamic and for the last 6 hours or so there have been no problems at all.
Very odd. (rhetorical question #1) why would static ip's on a local network affect accessing a website (rhetorical question#2) why on earth would it affect facebook and facebook apps but not other websites that we tried.

Poking around in my new routers config I saw that it was set to clone mac address.
I don't remember my old router being set to that so I disabled it and so far this morning things seems to be behaving.
It is maybe a little early to consider it resolved but it is looking good.
Yipppeeeeee!
