I was referring to the new icon:

3. It's now easier to communicate with your employees: There is a new message envelope icon at the top right in the 'Show Names->Show User Info' screen that will show you all your employees and visitors in your farms, from that screen you can send them neighbor requests, buddy requests, offline messages and chat messages. You don't have to be at your farms to do this, you can be at the markets or visiting other farmers.

This is also confusing for me as well. But from what I gather, this envelope only shows up when someone is actively on your farm (either visiting, super-neighbor, or hired from the marketplace.)

The envelope is always there.

No matter you have not hired anyone, if you are for example in your farms and you click in Show Names in the grid and then in Show User Info, you will see the envelope in the upper right corner of that screen.

But if you click in it, you will see a floating message saying that there are no users in your farms.
