You can ask people to help at your facilities by going to the "what's cooking" and click on "help", or whatever it is. It will ask if you want to request help from your friends and then post the request to your Facebook.

NOTE: this has to be asking for help on the "what's cooking" tab.

What probably happened to you this morning was that you clicked on your friends request for help. This took you to his farm with the option to help him. This is the same thing that will happen to people who answer your request for help.
